Ferdinand Magellan

Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521), was born in Sabrosa, Vila Real district. This was the Portuguese navigator who, at the service of Charles V, king of Spain, captained the first circumnavigation voyage, sailing to the West, across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, in search of a new path to the Indies. Manuel Fernandes (1946 – 2005), was born on September 10, 1946 in Vila Real. He started his racing career relatively late, in 1974, when he was 28 years old. He held his first rally in 1976 at Volta ao Algarve at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla 1200. The following year, he won the national promotion championship and five years later the National Speed ​​Championship. Adolfo Correia da Rocha (1907 – 1995) was born on August 12 in São Martinho de Anta, Vila Real. Known by the pseudonym Miguel Torga, Adolfo Rocha was one of the most influential poets and writers of the 20th century. In 1918 he entered the seminary in Lamego and two years later emigrated to Brazil to work on an uncle’s farm. However, he saw potential in Miguel Torga, paying for his lecial studies and his future entry to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, the date of the publication of his first book of poems. NADIR AFONSO

Nadir Afonso (1920 – 2013) was born on December 4, 1920, in Chaves. Completes the Architecture course at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto in 1948 and joins the Grupo dos Independentes, where he participates in all the exhibitions held until he left for Paris in 1946.
